Environment Management Plan

Newnes Kaolin (NK) have prepared a draft Environmental Management Strategy (EMS) with the first draft being circulated to the key stakeholders in late 2010 and early 2011.

Comments from the various state agencies were incorporated into a second version of the EMS and recirculated for additional comments in late 2011 and early 2012.

Detailed discussions and meetings were held with the Office of Environment & Heritage and the NSW Office of Water.

Meanwhile the search for the required compensatory habitat site was conducted through 2011 and early 2012 resulting in the identification of a 25 ha site (Mt Wirraba) in the middle of the Wollomi National Park. The land parcel in question was one of the last parcels of land within the WNP which is still in private ownership.

Negotiations for the purchase of the land were concluded in late 2012, settlement of the property occurred on 16 January 2013. Initial steps have been taken to transfer the property to National Parks and Wildlife.

In late 2011 the Department of Planning & Infrastructure (DoP&I) formally approved the following plans as components of the NK EMS: - Noise Monitoring Program - Air Quality Monitoring program - Rehabilitation & Landscape Management Plan

In November 2012 NK submitted the following plans to DoP&I for approval: - Environmental Monitoring Program - Dispute Resolution process - Water Management Plan - Groundwater Management Plan - Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management Plan - Draft Flora & Fauna Management Plan

While the DoP&I assess these plans NK have been advised by DoP&I to place them on the SCM website.

Following formal DoP&I approval of the EMS the complete document will be posted on the SCM website.
